Get to know Dijalo
Dijalo (Swahili: "crop") is a community grower app concept devised jointly by Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) and the James Hutton Insitute (JHI) to evaluate batches of seed to crop across selected areas in Scotland using a small team of growers.
How does it work?
Enrolment
Once enrolled as a grower, you will be sent random samples of seed to grow on your own managed plots.
Sowing & growing
Keep a record of how you sow the seed, manage weeds and fertilizer and monitor growth of your crops.
Sample collection
Send soil samples back to our labs, measure and log crop growth and weather conditions in the app.
Harvest your crop
Final measurements and data logging. You get to keep what you sow, send us your data for our scientists to review.
